Privacy policy
MeliePants is the studio name of Amelia Swanney, an independent UK design and development practice and the data controller for this site. This policy explains what personal data the site collects, why, the lawful basis for it, how long it is kept, and the rights you have under UK data-protection law. It reflects what the site actually does today. This is general information, not legal advice — review it with a qualified solicitor before relying on it commercially.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Amelia Swanney, trading as MeliePants (a sole trader), an independent design and development studio in the United Kingdom. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact info@meliepants.co.uk.
What I collect and why
Contact form. When you send an enquiry through the contact form, I collect the name, email address, and message you provide. I use this solely to read and reply to your enquiry and to keep a record of our correspondence.
Cookie and consent choice. When you respond to the cookie banner, your preference ("accept" or "essential only") is stored locally in your own browser so the banner does not reappear on every visit. It lives in your browser's local storage and is not sent to me as a tracking record.
Server logs. The hosting and content platform may automatically record standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps. This is used to keep the site secure and reliable.
Analytics. I use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to see which pages are visited and how quickly they load for real visitors. Both are cookieless and aggregated: they record page views and performance measurements, not identifiers that follow you around the web.
I do not run advertising trackers or marketing pixels on this site, and I do not build behavioural profiles of visitors.
Lawful bases (UK GDPR)
Contact enquiries are processed on the basis of legitimate interests — namely, responding to people who choose to get in touch — and, where you are asking about engaging the studio, to take steps at your request before entering a contract.
Essential cookies and the storage of your consent choice rely on legitimate interests in operating a functional, secure website. Server logs and the cookieless analytics rely on legitimate interests in security, reliability, and understanding how the site performs for the people using it.
Cookies and similar storage
This site does not set advertising or analytics cookies — the analytics described above are cookieless. It stores a single preference value in your browser to remember your response to the cookie banner, and the hosting platform may set strictly necessary cookies required for the site to function.
You can clear this preference at any time by deleting site data in your browser, which will make the banner appear again on your next visit.
Who I share data with
This site is built on Wix headless services. Contact form submissions are stored in a Wix Data collection, and the site's content is managed through Wix. Wix acts as a processor handling this data on my behalf, under its own security and data-processing terms.
The site itself is hosted and served by Vercel, which also provides the cookieless analytics and performance measurement described above. Vercel acts as a processor on my behalf under its own data-processing terms.
I do not sell your personal data. I will only disclose it where I am legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect my rights or the security of the site.
International transfers
Because the site uses Wix and Vercel, your data may be processed on servers outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the provider's data-processing terms and recognised transfer mechanisms.
How long I keep it
I keep contact enquiries only for as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable follow-up period afterwards, then delete or anonymise them. Technical logs are retained for a short period for security and troubleshooting. Your locally stored cookie preference stays in your browser until you clear it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability where it applies. Where processing relies on legitimate interests, you can object to it.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@meliepants.co.uk or use the contact page. I aim to respond within one month.
If you are not satisfied with how I have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Updates
I may update this policy as the site or my legal obligations change. The current version always lives on this page.
